Both - (alle) beide

Both wird nur verwendet, wenn es sich um eine Zweiergruppe handelt. Es drückt die Zusammengehörigkeit aus.

  • Both thieves were arrested.
  • Both of them were happy with the results.
  • Both students had to retake the exam.

 

Either - der eine von zweien

Either betont jeden einzelnen in der Zweiergruppe.

  • Either present would be nice.
  • You can walk on either side of the road.
  • You can use either entrance.

 

Neither - der eine von zweien

Neither wird verwendet um Auszudrücken, dass weder die eine noch andere Person oder Ding, Aussage zutrifft.

  • Neither of these (two) kids did their homework.
  • Which of these movies did you watch? Neither.
  • Have you read one of these articles? I have read neither.
